S till trying to decide which is diet will work best for you? Should you cut out the carbs? Eat less fat? Are you considering eating all your meals at Subway for the rest of your life?
In the midst of all the confusion about which diets really do work best. There are a few simple rules that apply to anyone looking to create an effective, healthy and energizing diet. (Sounds like a great subject for a series of articles?) This is the first article in a three part series dedicated to helping you create a sensible nutritional program that you can live with. Let's get started.
Always eat at least five meals (frequent feeding) each day. This may seem like a lot if you're accustom to eating two or three meals each day like most of us are. Before you begin to tell yourself that eating five meals a day is completely unrealistic and you simply don't have the time.

Eating five meals a day doesn't necessarily mean five large, time consuming meals or asking your boss for an extra four lunch breaks each day. Some of these meals can be "snacks" providing they provide enough calories to get you through to the next meal and a balanced proportion of carbohydrates, protein and fat.

Benefits of Frequent Feeding
Frequent feeding helps to....
- control your blood sugar and insulin levels thus supplying you with a steady flow of energy throughout the day.
- feed your body small "doses" of protein throughout the day to support muscle growth and recovery.
- use your bodyfat as an energy source as opposed to storing it.
- supply your body with just enough calories to make it to the next meal which reduces its need to store bodyfat.
In contrast, infrequent feeding (eating less than three meals a day) actually works against your body by causing it to expect a "famine" situation. Many of the calories that you consume will be stored as bodyfat in preparation for the "famine" to come. Infrequent eating can also cause your energy and mood levels to sway throughout the day.
As you can see there are many benefits of frequent feeding. Next time we'll take a look at some other "Rules to Eat By." Look forward to learning some great tips on planning your meals based on your activity levels and other simple steps to an effective nutritional program. One that will bring you closer to creating the physique you've always wanted.
